Empava EMPV-13EC09 Wide Dual-Zone Induction Cooktop review

An earlier horizontal two-zone 120 V model with an adjustable 120–460°F Temperature mode, 9:59 countdown and a built-in installation option; its 1,800 W total is shared.

A useful fit for

An earlier, wide two-zone configuration for users who value 20°F Temperature-mode steps and a 599-minute timer, can meet the manual’s 20 A breaker requirement and accept shared 1,800 W output.

The main tradeoff

Both zones cannot deliver their individual 1,800 W maximum together. The manual’s required 20 A breaker conflicts with the product-page 15 A amperage field; low 100/200 W labels pulse 300 W. Stock is not confirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does an adjustable Temperature mode matter more than an induction-only power setting?

EMPV-13EC09 manual confirms 18 cookware Temperature setpoints from 120 to 460°F in 20°F increments, but the under-glass sensor does not directly read food temperature.

Is a documented timer up to 9 hours 59 minutes sufficient?

The exact 13EC09 manual provides a 599-minute maximum. A 600-minute requirement exceeds that limit.

Can your setup accept the 20 A breaker and shared-output plan?

The exact manual requires a minimum 20 A breaker; the product page lists 15 A, so verify the nameplate and circuit. Both zones share 1,800 W, with a 1,500 W per-zone cap when both are active.

The Empava EMPV-13EC09 occupies a different part of the portable-cooktop range than the small 12-inch-wide two-zone layouts: its listed body is 20 1/2 inches wide, 14 1/8 inches deep and just under three inches high. The exact page describes it as portable or built-in, while the manual identifies a 120 V/60 Hz, 1,800 W, two-element configuration. Its combination of an adjustable Temperature mode, a 9-hour-59-minute timer and a documented drop-in option is attractive on paper, but the important limit is still shared electrical capacity rather than two burners at full output together.

Temperature mode is a setpoint, not a pan thermometer

The manual gives eighteen Temperature choices from 120 to 460°F in 20°F increments. It specifically warns that the sensor is below the center of the cooking element and that pan-bottom gaps and cookware differences can make actual cookware temperature differ from the selected value. Thus this is more detailed than a few fixed presets, but it is not a wired food probe and does not promise a measured surface value on every pan. Melt, Keep Warm and Simmer are separate one-touch programs; the manual describes default two-hour timers and targets of 113°F, 158°F and 195°F. Choose the mode based on whether a wattage or a controlled target is useful, then remain attentive to the food and cookware.

Power mode lists eighteen settings from 100 through 1,800 W. As with Empava’s other closely related appliances, low-level labels need context: the manual says level 1 supplies 300 W for three seconds then pauses for seven, and level 2 supplies 300 W for seven seconds then pauses for three. Continuous output starts at 300 W. When both zones are powered, each has a documented 1,500 W ceiling and the total remains at most 1,800 W. When one element is in Keep Warm or Simmer mode, the other is capped at 1,300 W; do not read the 1,800 W per-zone specification as a combined peak.

A broad footprint and long countdown

The horizontal layout gives two distinct rings and separate controls. Empava says its manual supports flat-bottom magnetic cookware from 12 to 26 cm (4.7–10.83 inches) across. If your essential pan falls outside that published diameter guidance, do not assume it is compatible because the circles look generous. A regular magnet test can help screen cookware, but the guide’s size range still matters. The countdown timer can run from one minute through 9 hours 59 minutes and shuts the cooking element down at zero. Without a timer, the manual states a two-hour automatic shutoff if no operations are made; that feature is not a reason to leave cooking unattended. Pause interrupts heat and countdown for no more than ten minutes.

The exact-model manual calls for a 20 A minimum circuit breaker, although the product page’s amperage field shows 15 A. Because the product page also identifies a 120 V plug, it may appear like a routine small-appliance hookup, but the breaker conflict must not be ignored. Confirm the rating plate and existing circuit with a qualified electrician before use. For countertop placement, use a flat stable surface and keep vents clear. For built-in mounting, the manual specifies a cutout range and clearances and says a qualified technician should install the unit. This is indoor household equipment, not a patio or camping cooktop.

Compare against the two smaller Empava arrangements

The EMPV-IDC12 is the narrower vertical two-zone model; the EMPV-IDC12B2 places the rings side by side in a wider but shorter body. Both share the same 1,800 W ceiling and give shorter countdown limits than the 13EC09. The bridge-enabled EMPV-12EC07 instead uses a Sync control to connect adjacent rings as one larger area; it does not document the same separate Temperature mode. If bridge cookware is the need, do not pick 13EC09 just because it is also two-zone. Conversely, if a long countdown and regular flat-pan control are more important than a bridge, 13EC09 is the differentiated option.

The manufacturer’s current page contains both sold-out wording and cart-availability text, and this exact SKU is not in the displayed main induction collection; it is therefore treated as an earlier reference, not a guaranteed current purchase. The manual and exact page support the configuration, but no independent boil time, accuracy test, noise measurement or reliability record is claimed. Verify the actual model, manual revision, circuit and stock status on the appliance you are considering.
